Lecture Synopsis
Low shrink composite –dream or reality?
Patients are increasingly requesting tooth-coloured restorations for their back teeth. However, placement of resin composite restorations in posterior teeth has been technique sensitive, principally because of the clinical steps needed to overcome the effects of polymerisation contraction and the stress associated with it. A low shrinkage resin composite material could therefore hold advantages for the clinician. This presentation will address the problems of polymerisation contraction stress and how to overcome these and provide up-to-date information on the current status of low shrinkage composite materials by way of a handling evaluation and clinical trial of a low shrinkage material in UK general dental practice.
