Speaker Profile
In 2002, whilst working as a dental nurse Sharon developed a keen interest in practice management and felt that she could improve the running of the practice immensely so Sharon approached her principal dentist to express her concern at the dysfunction of the practice and it was decided that she would take over the management of the practice. Sharon converted the practice from NHS to a fully private practice during her stay there. In October 2003, she left the Wimbledon practice as she needed more of a challenge and was then hired as the practice manager at the London City Dental Practice in London Bridge. There she began her employment with Dr Sunit Malhan and Dr Yogesh Solanki, who had ventured into their first joint partnership. Six months into Sharon’s employment they invited her to a meeting offering her the opportunity to manage a second practice they were considering purchasing. She accepted the challenge and within eighteen months Sharon was managing four practices. Two of the four practices are private and the other two are NHS. The London City Dental Practice is now part of a mini corporate group called the Dental Arts Studio; and Sharon has been instrumental in the creation and development of the Dental Arts Studio. She is now the Operation Director who manages every aspect of the six practices within the group alongside her principal dentists. In 2007, Sharon won the BDPMA Practice Manager of the year. In 2008, she was shortlisted for most outstanding achievements at the Private Dentistry awards. Her role at the Dental Arts Studio grows every day and she does whatever it takes to make the practices function smoothly. Her key strengths are establishing practice procedures and policies and implementation of systems for monitoring the performance of the practices. She micro-manages the practice managers in each branch, and is also responsible for all the internal training for her staff from ethical dentistry to customer care training and development. After winning Practice Manager of the Year she was approached by the Dental Tribune to write regular articles under the section DCP’s. She has thoroughly enjoyed her development from a dental nurse, manager to now a writer, which has been a progress for her beyond imagination.
