Kira Stearns

Speaker Profile

Kira qualified as a dental hygienist and with distinction as a dental therapist from Bart’s and The Royal London Hospital in 2000. After qualification she has worked in a variety of settings including private and NHS general practice, specialist paediatric practice and the community dental service. Since 2002 Kira has been involved in teaching dental hygiene/therapy students, initially at the Royal London Hospital and Portsmouth University. Kira has been involved in the development of the first Dental Therapists Vocational Training Scheme in England and is employed as a vocational training advisor to the scheme. She has been actively involved in the British Association of Dental Therapists in posts as the London regional representative.

Broadening your Horizons – Career Development for Dental Hygienists and Therapists

This presentation will outline the development opportunities available to dental hygienists and therapists. Through my knowledge of working in postgraduate dental education Kira will give you tips on how these can be opportunities can be accessed and used to assist you in progressing your career. Delegates will leave the session with a clear understanding of the role of the Professional Development Plan (PDP) and will have identified at least one learning objective along with an action to address this.
