
Ian qualified from Leeds in 1998 and has worked in both NHS and Private practice. He now spends most of his time at the Dental Academy in Cheshire where he provides general dentistry and takes referrals for all aspects of Periodontology.
Ian is also a Part-time Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology at Liverpool University where he provides both hands-on teaching, lectures and one-to-one clinical training in periodontal surgery.
Ian is the British Society of Periodontology Representative for Merseyside and Cheshire and is completing his MSc in Clinical Periodontology.
Lecture Synopsis:
Ian will quickly up date the audiences understanding of Periodontal Diseases. He will highlight the importance of the recognised risk factors in periodontal disease and at the same time, dispel some myths.
He will show how the dental nurse, particularly those with the Oral Health Educator qualification, can play a significant role in the management of the periodontal patient. He will introduce some useful resources that may be used in practice by members of the dental team.In the last section of his talk he will look to show you some of the highly specialised techniques that are available for the treatment of advanced gum disease so that you can talk sensibly to your patients, if asked, about the treatment of periodontitis.
