Debbie Hemington

Speaker Profile

Debbie qualified as a Dental Therapist at New Cross in 1983, the year it closed down, and is actually the last New Cross Therapist! She qualified as a Hygienist at Kings in 1987 and currently combines working in practice with teaching Hygienists and Therapists at The Eastman Dental Hospital. Debbie has also been involved in providing post graduate CPD, having written and presented a 2 part original course with a colleague, and recently has ventured into organising courses herself in response to local demand. She is an elected council member of BADT and Treasurer of the London Region where she organises regular study days, and she has been asked to speak at the Biannual Conference of the European Association of Oral Medicine in October 2010, presenting an account of her role in treating a terminally ill HIV positive teenager.

50 Years of Dental Therapy - From “Simple Fillings” to Owning a Practice.

Debbie will trace the history  and developments in Dental Therapy in the UK, from it’s very beginnings in 1960 with restricted duties and employment, through to the modern day Therapist with the increasing role they play in the modern dental team, and looks to what the future might hold.
