David is a Consultant and the Head of Sedation & Special Care Dentistry for Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. He is also a Member of the Standing Committee on Sedation for Dentistry, the Faculty of Dental Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of England as well as being a Committee Member of the Dental Sedation Teachers Group. David is the SAAD Course Director & Immediate Past President. He is also the immediate Past Chairman, National Examining Board for Dental Nurses.

By the end of this short introductory course participants should know:

1. the indications and contra-indications for the use of conscious sedation in dentistry

2. the principles of administering sedation drugs using titration to a recognised sedation endpoint, monitoring, recovery and discharge

3. where to obtain further training/guidance on the use of conscious sedation techniques

4. the need for appropriate team training
