Effective Patient Communication - New age thinking or back to basics?

Just how far have we come in making what we say and do effective in behavioural change? We often want our patients to change their habits, but is it time for us to think differently about what we do?

Biography

Ann left the RAF to go to Liverpool Dental School and upon completing her training worked for Denplan. She has worked in all areas of dentistry but for the last six years she has worked exclusively in private practice. For five years she worked at a multi disciplinary referral practice where her focus was treating patients prior to dental implants and advanced restorative procedures. She has lectured for the last five years including at the ADI's 20th anniversary congress and the 2008 WAC and is on the BSDHT's speaker's list. She currently works clinically 2 days per week and is running Perio Development, a dental practice and management consultancy.

Since 2006 Ann has been a Key Opinion Leader for Philips Oral Healthcare, supporting them with lectures and research. In 2007 she began working with Premier, a dental manufacturer based in Philadelphia, and is now their Product Expert for their instrument range and Enamel Pro Varnish and Paste.

In May 2010 she became a key trainer for Curaprox UK as part of their iTOP program. Ann is a member of the BSDHT, ADI and FGDP(UK).

Finally she is a moderator on www.hygienist.co.uk, an online forum for dental hygienists and therapists where she earned the nickname, The Toothfairy!
