The Dentistry Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC on 4th and 5th March 2011, is delighted to announce that Mouth Cancer Action Month will be the charity partner for next year’s event.

The Dentistry Show, organised by Closerstill Media Healthcare Ltd, was launched in 2007 and is now the UKs fastest growing Dentistry Exhibition and Conference.  Attracting near to 3,000 delegates and over 200 delegates in its fourth year, the show attributes its success to the conference programme delivering first class certifiable content with leading speakers from around the world.

The British Dental Health Foundation, who organise the annual campaign throughout November, will be attending the conference to raise funds and awareness of mouth cancer with their Blue Ribbon Badge Appeal.

The charity calls on dentists, pharmacists and all dental care professionals to lend their support to a campaign advising the public ‘If In Doubt, Get Checked Out’.

The tagline aims to encourage the public to self-examine for signs of mouth cancer and visit their dentist for oral screenings – early detection improves survival chances from just 50% to more than 90%.

The Blue Ribbon badge is the sign of the campaign and has helped raise funds and the profile of the campaign. Free boxes of blue campaign ribbon badges are available to all surgeries, practices, health centres, pharmacies, hospitals, schools and businesses to help raise funds through donation and promote discussion of the disease.

Foundation chief executive Dr Nigel Carter said: “It is vital that we gain support as recent shocking figures show mouth cancer is on the increase. This proves an urgent need to ensure that each and every dental patient is screened for mouth cancer and informed of the risks. The Dentistry Show provides an excellent platform for us to raise awareness for the campaign which can help save lives”.

“The Mouth Cancer Action Month is an excellent charity partner to have on board” says Ian Reynolds, Dentistry Show Manager. “We hope to raise the awareness of the campaign amongst the dentistry community and collect much needed funds at the show so ask all visitors and exhibitors to buy a blue ribbon during their visit”.

2011 will see five clinical lecture streams running throughout the show, with speakers each rotating between the theatres located on the exhibition floor. The very popular ‘Live Theatre’ will be running again where procedures including Implant Surgery, Whitening and Botulinum Toxin will be performed.

The Dentistry Show is an event that seamlessly blends clinical and commercial insight to support and equip practice owners, partners, dentists, managers, nurses, hygienists, therapist and administrators for the challenges ahead.
